OCEAN CITY, Md. – Peyton Manning made the NFL audible “Omaha” famous. Now Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan wants “Ocean City” to be the next big play call in the league.
“Since he [Peyton Manning] officially retired that,” Meehan said. “We thought why not enter ‘Ocean City’ or ‘O.C.’ as the new call.”
Meenhan sent out what the town calls “Ocean City swag” to regional NFL quarterbacks in hopes they’ll use the Delmarva-based play call. The quarterback list includes: Ravens’ Joe Flacco, Redskins’ Kirk Cousins, Giants’ Eli Manning and Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger.
Meehan did not hear a response from the teams yet, but the Washington Redskins did put a picture of the gift on its front webpage.
“Just for Ocean City to be my home town,” Jabbar Mills, an Ocean City native, said. “It would be very exciting.”
The O.C. mayor also hopes the proposed NFL audible would boost tourism.
“I know in Omaha they got a lot of play on that because he kept yelling out Omaha,” Meehan said.
Ocean City is remaining hopeful that one team will pick up the “Ocean City” play call.
