On Sunday, Nov. 20, the University of Delaware Women’s field hockey team defeated University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill during the NCAA Tournament Final, 3-2.
“Our goal was to go to the final four but once we got to the final four, we weren’t satisfied with that, we wanted to do more,” Maggie Delp, junior on the UD Field Hockey team, says.
Delp is a former player for Cape Henlopen High School’s field hockey team and is currently the only Delawarean on the UD team. UD field hockey Head Coach Rolf van de Kerkhof commend’s Cape Henlopen’s field hockey program.
“Cape Henlopen has a great feeder program and a great tradition and that’s what we try to build or resemble here as well so our incoming players are coming in a little earlier to our programs here prior to their graduation and Maggie did that as well.”
Delp is a two-time letter winner for the Blue Hens and is currently studying medical diagnostics with a pre-physicians assistant concentration. Joining Delp next year is Cape Henlopen alumni Jacki Coveleski who will be taking on the role of volunteer assistant.
