Salisbury Baseball Falls to Johns Hopkins on Senior Day
SALISBURY, Md.– Salisbury University’s baseball team was handed a 7-5 defeat by Johns Hopkins University at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium on Sunday, which also happened to be SU’s Senior Day.
All Salisbury baseball seniors were honored before the game began for their play over the years.
The No. 19 Sea Gulls (25-9) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning after being down one in the top. The lead was executed by a sacrifice bunt from Jay Perry, then a single from Will Gutekunst that sent both runners on base home.
The Blue Jays (23-11) took a 3-2 lead in the third before Scott Ardoin hit a single that Justin Meekins scored off of, tying the game at 3-3.
The Sea Gulls faced another deficit after the sixth inning, being down 6-4. The Blue Jays scored again in the ninth as the Sea Gulls had to score three runs to tie with the three outs left.
A solo home run from Colby Dean began the ninth inning for Salisbury, but the comeback fell short after three consecutive fly outs.
Salisbury’s next match-up is against No. 2 Rowan University on Monday. The game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
