UMES Baseball Falls to Pitt in Series Finale
PITTSBURGH, Pa.— The University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team was taken down by the University of Pittsburgh 18-5 in the series finale on Wednesday at Charles L. Cost Field.
Senior Isaiah Chambers (Bowie, Md.) led the way for the Hawks, going 2 for 3 with three scored runs.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 9-37. Pitt swept the series with their win on Tuesday as well.
Chambers was the only batter for the Hawks to have multiple hits in the game. Junior Joey Nicastro (New Market, Md.) added on with two runs scored while senior Jamison Trower (Chesterfield, Virginia) and sophomore Blake Coleman (Woodbridge, Virginia) each had RBIs.
Freshman Brian Cordell (Pasadena, Maryland) came in for relief pitching and went 2 2/3 innings with just one earned run.
Pitt grabbed the lead early, then Chambers hit a triple that scored two in the second inning. The Panthers then responded with a three-run second inning with eight more runs in the third to put the game out of reach for the Hawks.
The next contest for the Hawks comes against Delaware State in Dover this weekend.
