Baseball Cards in the Digital Age
The traditional baseball card is a picture of a player embedded on cardboard with statistics and other information found on the backside. Now in the digital age, the card producers are embracing that technology. TOPPS, long the industry leader, has introduced BUNT. This is a card series solely purchased for viewing on electronic devices.
It offers the collector another option.
“I think as long as people continue buying the older stuff and chasing rookie cards its not really going have much of an effect (on traditional cards),” said the owner of Hometown Sports Collectables in Dover David Conley. “Its going to be a new type of media for people to go after.”
Conley said the value of the classics such as the 1952 Mickey Mantle card will only continue to increase.
