The momentum of an upset win over two-time champ Petra Kvitova was not enough to propel Madison Brengle any further at Wimbledon. The Dover native lost in straight sets in the third round to 21st seed Caroline Garcia 6-4 6-3. It ended an impressive week for the unseeded Brengle
Prior to this year, she never won a match at Wimbledon. This week she won two.
Brengle’s advanced to third round with a three set Wednesday win (6-3, 1-6, 6-2) win over Kvitova. It marked the third time in the past three years Brengle has won a match against Kvitova.
Friday was the third time in Brengle’s career she played a third round match at a major. Her best showing was the 2015 Australian Open when Brengle advanced to the fourth round before losing to fellow American Madison Keys 6-2 6-4.
