On Wednesday, the Shorebirds will welcome another Oriole on a rehab assignment to Delmarva. Chris Davis has been on the disabled list since June 13 with a right oblique strain. As part of his work to return to the Orioles, Davis played on Monday for Carolina League affiliate Frederick. He had a double in four at bats for the Keys against Myrtle Beach.
Part of the rehab is to regain his batting stroke. The Monday game showed the inconsistency he needs to overcome. Prior to the double, Davis struck out twice against single A level pitching.
Davis hit 14 home runs in the 61 games he played this season for the Orioles. While not solely responsible for the team’s summer slide, the Orioles are four games under .500 (11-15) since Davis went on the disabled list.
Davis joins Joey Rickard and Zach Britton as Orioles who have played for the Shorebirds this season.
