Dover, DE – Freshwater trout fishing in Delaware has two opening days just weeks apart. In the southern part of the state, the season started March 5. For northern areas in Delaware, this Saturday, April 2 is opening day.
In March, the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife has been busy stocking streams and ponds. For the year it is estimated that 27,000 trout will be stocked in six designated streams and two ponds.
The warmer waters in Delaware require the stocking take place during this time of the year when the water temperature is still cold.
