Dover International Speedway will play a role in determining who wins the 2016 Cup. The Monster Mile once again is part of the The Chase playoff system with the October 2 race.
At this point in the season, several drivers have secured spots in the playoffs. Their approach to this Sunday’s race has two purposes. Of course winning takes priority, but with a playoff spot in hand, it allows them to test set-ups, lines, and strategy for October.
“If there’s anything we can do to try to prepare ourselves better by trying different strategies or trying different set ups or restart gears we will try it but we’ll never give a chance to go out and win races,” said Carl Edwards.
“i think you kind of know after practice weather you have a shot to win or not and you adjust accordingly,” said Denny Hamlin. “If you don’t then you are more willing to try somethings to learn but you are always out there trying to win the race for sure.”
For drivers not in Chase, winning at Dover will change that status.
“We’ve got to get a few spots better this year to try and get to victory lane but i think we can do it,” said Aric Almirola. “Our race team has been bringing fast race cars to the track every week and i’m looking forward to coming to Dover. This is one place we have highlighted that we have a legitimate shot to show up and come win.”
