Dover’s Brengle Loses in Three Sets at Wimbledon

June 27, 2016 Posted by Matt Pencek Featured Sports, Local Sports, National Sports

LONDON- Momentum appeared to be with Madison Brengle in her first round match at Wimbledon.  After dropping the first set 6-2 to Japan’s Kurumi Nara, the Dover native won a tie breaker by a score of 7-5 to take the second 7-6.

After Brengle won the first game of the third and deciding set, it was Nara who re-established herself winning 6-3 and ending Brengle’s stay in tennis’s most prestigious event.

It is Brengle’s second straight first round exit in a Grand Slam.  On May 22, she lost in the first round of the French Open in straight sets to Elena Vesnina.

In the lead-up to Wimbledon, Brengle won four matches at the Aegon International including a straight set victory over 23rd ranked Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Brengle is scheduled to compete closer to home next month in the Citi Open held at the Rock Creek Tennis Center in Washington, D.C.
