Early Inning Deficit Leads To Berlin Loss

July 20, 2017 Posted by Matt Pencek Baseball/Softball, Featured Sports

Fruitland – Berlin could not overcome the three spot they allowed to Thurmont in the first inning. With the 11-5 loss, the season ends for Berlin as Thurmont wins the Maryland Little League Championship.

Back-to-to back hits by Logan Simanski and D.J. Shipton opened the first for Thurmont. Josh Skowronski followed with a walk, loading the bases with nobody out. Two sacrifice flies and an EJ Lowry RBI single produced the three runs in the inning.

Only two days ago, the same two teams produced a gem of a playoff game highlighted by several stellar defensive plays. Thurmont won 3-2 putting Berlin in the position of having to win three in a row to win the title.

On Wednesday, Berlin earned the first of the three with a 9-2 win over Conococheague. The Thursday loss to Thurmont ended a Berlin drive for their first state title in four years.
