DOVER, Del.- The Dover Senators will host the Smyrna Eagles in a football matchup in Week 4 of the Henlopen Conference.
Both teams are 2 and 1 and will fight for their third win of the season.
“I want to win really bad,” Dover senior middle linebacker Melvin Jackson said. ” It’s been burning me up. We’ve been talking about it all week. Actually, we’ve been talking about this since summertime.”
The Eagles are coming off of a Week 3 loss on the road against Salesianum, 56-76. Their Head Coach Mike Judy believes his team has learned form their loss. They want to move forward.
“They are hungry to get that third win on the season,” Coach Judy said. “They are even hungrier because it is Dover. We are fired up as a program to get this opportunity to play a great program.”
If coming off a loss is not enough motivation, the Eagles are 0-7 against Dover. While they’ve average 58 points per game this season, the Eagles always seem to fall to the Senators.
“It is not about big plays it’s about making your play, Dover Head Coach Dante Jones said. “We preach to the kids every game to make your play, whatever your play is.”
Dover is coming off a wild 41-40 victory over Lake Forest in Week 3. Their offense is confident they will continue their effort in week 4.
“Offensively we have to just execute the running game and in the air, Dover senior wide receiver Tuscan Wright said. “Our air attack was great last week. We just have to build off of that. And defensively, we just have to make good tackles and play sound football.”
Smyrna Head Coach Mike Judy is going against his alma matter. Judy graduated from Dover High School in 1998.
“It’s bitter sweet,” Coach Judy said. “It’s great to be able to see where they’ve come at the new school and to see all the great things they are doing down there. I wish them the best nine game out of the year. As for Friday night, no love it lost.”
The game takes place at Dover High School on Friday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m.
