Governor’s Challenge Basketball Tournament Gets Underway
SALISBURY, Md.- The Governor’s Challenge Basketball Tournament, the largest holiday high school basketball tournament in the nation, returns to the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center, University of Maryland Eastern Shore and surrounding high schools on Dec. 26-30.
Now in its 37th year, 120 teams from Maryland, Delaware, Washington, D.C., Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Virginia and Canada will participate in this year’s tournament, which is sponsored by The Bank of Delmarva.
This year’s format will include a DMVelite Showcase division featuring 24 top teams from around the region, as well as a varsity boys division, varsity girls division and boys JV division.
A fan favorite every year, the Governor’s Challenge Slam Dunk Contest is set for 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29. There will also be Skills Challenges and Three Point Contests at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27 and Friday, Dec. 29.
In addition to the civic center and UMES in Princess Anne, other venues will include James M. Bennett High, Wicomico High and Parkside High in Salisbury.
Single-day tickets are $10 each. Week-long passes are also available for $35 each. Fees may apply. Tickets are available online, by phone at 410-548-4911 or in person at the box office.
