Smyrna, DE – The Henlopen Conference had two cracks at a high school girls soccer state championship. Caesar Rodney in Division I faced Padua while it was a rematch of the 2015 title match in Division II. There the result was similar. Caravel was a two goal winner, 2-0 over the Indians. Last year it was a 3-1 Caravel win in the finals.
The Buccaneers Sierra Frey scored a goal in the opening minute. That held until the 76 minute mark in the second half when Summer Stewart found the back of the net past Fabrea McCray for the final goal of the contest.
It’s the first time Indian River has been shutout since a 2-0 loss to St. George’s in the 2014 playoffs.
In the nightcap, Caesar Rodney was limited to one goal against Padua in a 4-1 loss. The Riders finish 2016 with only two losses, both at the hands of Padua.
