Chincoteague’s offense is not going to dazzle anybody. It is basic smash mouth football. Still that approach requires a capable quarterback who can manage the team and on occasion make a big play with the arm.
Last season that was Collin Derrickson. He was expected to be in that role this season until a baseball injury required Tommy John surgery. Derrickson is out, in is converted flanker Dustin Holloway.
“He does well running the ball and he’s accurate within 20 yards which is what we shoot for,” head coach Nick Howard said.
On defense, expect an blitzing style of play led by junior linebacker Voshawn Davis and senior end Chris Conger. The defense helped turn around the 2015 season by allowing an average of just 9.5 points over the Ponies final six game.
