Chestertown, MD – If it were not for Hereford’s Kaily Brandt, Kent Island may have celebrated winning the Maryland 2A State Field Hockey Championship. Brandt scored both of Hereford’s goals as the Buccaneers lost 2-1.
After a scoreless first half, Brandt opened the scoring. Kent Island responded as Wake Forest commit, AbbY Carpenter tied it up after a penalty corner shot.
Later in the half Brandt scored the game winner.
“We only had a couple of opportunities down in our circle,” Kent Island Head Coach Jami Wilt said. “Our defense has come through for us all year and we kept saying if we can hold them off we’ll wear them down and we almost did have that opportunity.”
