At the conclusion of the 2017-18 Men’s Basketball season, Maryland Eastern Shore announced they were parting ways with head coach Bobby Collins. Instead of naming a permanent replacement, the Hawks athletic program went in an unconventional direction. Assistant Cliff Reed was elevated to the head role but only on a one year interim basis.
“I have been coaching 2O plus years and what I realize is that I need to do the best possible job I can,” Reed said. “The rest will take care of itself.”
Reed is not a newbie to directing a MEAC program. For ten seasons (2002-2011) Reed was the head coach at his alma mater Bethune Cookman posting winning records during his final three campaigns including an appearance in the 2011 NIT.
