Polytech Panthers Head Basketball Coach on 2015/16 Season: ‘It’s Just About Heart.’

December 3, 2015 Posted by WBOC Staff Basketball, Featured Sports, Local Sports

Watch the raw interview with Polytech Panthers Head Coach John Pierce.

Dover, Del. – The Polytech boys basketball program had a 22-2 overall run last season that took the Panthers all the way to the championship game.

Despite a 45-52 loss to Salesianum, Head Coach John Pierce believes his team can make a similar run this year.

“I have some seniors that’ll be ready to step up and do some things,” Pierce said. “We won’t be as tall as we normally are but I think our guard-play will be very well.”

Coach Pierce will rely on guards Chase Chapel and Zachery Price to lead that charge.

The Panthers graduated the height of the team in 6-foot forward DeVaughn Mallory, who is now playing for Delaware State University.

Before their run last year, the last postseason the Panthers saw was in the 2012/2013 season.

“I think if we play hard and do what we’re supposed to do, we can repeat what we did last year,” Pierce said. “It’s just about heart.”
