The Salisbury University men’s lacrosse team has had a better than average reputation over the years and that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.
The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association coaches’ poll and the Laxmagazine.com rankings show the Salisbury University men’s lacrosse team has been ranked No. 1 in the nation.
Last week the Sea Gulls (17-0) ended the regular season with a pair of big victories over top-15 teams. First they dispatched No. 7 York College of Pennsylvania, 17-5, to secure the Capital Athletic Conference regular-season title. Then, they welcomed No. 15 Cabrini College to town and took down the Cavaliers, 17-8, on their senior day.
According to the USILA poll, Salisbury is at No. 1 with 378 points and 18 of the 19 first-place votes. Rochester Institute of Technology stays at No. 2 with 362 points and the other first-place vote. RIT is followed by Tufts University (340 points), St. Lawrence University (307 points), and Denison University (303 points) to round out the top five.
The Gulls are currently at the top and are followed by RIT, Tufts, Denison, and St. Lawrence.
Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, April 23 when it hosts a Capital Athletic Conference semifinal contest. The Gulls will play the winner of the Frostburg State University and University of Mary Washington first-round playoff matchup. The start time of that game is to be determined.
