SALISBURY, MD. – The Salisbury University men’s lacrosse team has been ranked as the No. 2 team in the nation, according to both the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll and the Laxmagazine.com rankings released on Monday.
The Sea Gulls (17-1) went 1-0 with a 15-5 win over then-No. 4 York College of Pennsylvania in the Capital Athletic Conference championship game. The win gave Salisbury its 20th CAC title as well as the CAC’s automatic berth into the 2017 NCAA men’s lacrosse tournament.
In the USILA poll, Bates College is in first with 310 points and 10 first-place votes. Salisbury comes in just two points behind Bates with 308 points and the six remaining first-place votes. The rest of the top five is comprised of, Rochester Institute of Technology (281 points), State University of New York – Cortland (247 points), while York College of Pennsylvania and St. Lawrence University are tied for fifth with 245 points.
In the Laxmagazine.com rankings, Bates gets the top spot and is followed up by Salisbury, RIT, Denison University, and Cortland.
Salisbury’s next game is to be determined by the NCAA selection committee and the Gulls are guaranteed a spot in the 2017 field following their CAC championship. The committee will have its selection show on Sunday, May 7 at 9 p.m.
