After a sweep of the York College of Pennsylvania Spartans on Saturday, the Salisbury University Sea Gulls locked up the number one seed in the CAC Tournament.
Salisbury finished off the regular season 17-1 in conference play, suffering their only loss to Christopher Newport. The Sea Gulls will be the number one seed in the tournament for the first time since 2013, and the first time under head coach Troy Brohawn.
Last season the Sea Gulls won the CAC Tournament against Frostburg State, but will face tough conference competition heading into the tournament. Christopher Newport will be the number two seed, and York will be the number three seed.
Saturday was a wild one for seed position, with five teams trying to punch their ticket into the final three spots. With Wesley and Marymount splitting their double-header, Wesley will be the four seed, while Marymount will be the five seed.
After Tuesday’s games the tournament will be remaining at the SU Baseball Field for the rest of the tournament.
Salisbury will host the number six seed University of Mary Washington Eagles on Tuesday to start off their quest for back-to-back CAC titles. Salisbury swept the Eagles this season 7-1 in game one and a 19 run explosion in game two.
The Sea Gulls have won 12 straight games versus CAC opponents and have scored double-digit runs in five of their last seven.
In the tournament two losses send a team home, and the winner will be crowned on Saturday. Salisbury hasn’t lost in the CAC Tournament since 2015 where they lost to Frostburg 6-0.
The winner of the Salisbury and Mary Washington game will play again on Thursday at 12:30 p.m., while the loser will play at 9 a.m.
First pitch for Tuesday’s matchup is set for 3:30 p.m. For a full schedule of the tournament games click here.
