Tonight the Delmarva Shorebirds kick off their first game at home in the 2017 season versus the Hagerstown Suns.
The Shorebirds are 2-5 so far this season and are coming off a 8-2 victory against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Delmarva starts a seven-game home stand, with a four game series versus the Suns and a three game series with the Grasshoppers.
Third baseman Collin Woody has started off strong for Delmarva, posting a .350 batting average and a .481 OBP. Lucas Humpal and Zach Muckenhirn are leading the team this season in innings and both have an ERA under one.
Delmarva went 34-34 at home last season and posted a solid record headed down the stretch.
Hagerstown is 5-2 already this season, but will have their first road game of the season tonight. Carter Kieboom and Juan Soto are two of the top three hitters in the South Atlantic League with batting averages of .458 and .464.
Pitching has gotten off to a rough start for the Suns, where they are ranked tenth in the South Atlantic Division with a team ERA of 4.15.
Delmarva will start the 6′ 5″ righty Matthias Dietz tonight versus Carlos Acevedo of the Suns. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
