Smryna Is After A Three-Peat In Delaware

August 21, 2017 Posted by Matt Pencek Featured Sports, Football, Local Sports

Two key losses on offense make Smyrna’s defense of their 2016 state championship challenging for head coach Mike Judy. He must replace the Delaware Player Of The Year in quarterback Nolan Henderson who has taken his talents to the college level at the University of Delaware. That was expected due to graduation. Somewhat of a surprise was the transfer of the Eagles second leading rusher Leddie Brown. The West Virginia commit will play this season at Nuemann Goretti in Philadelphia.

Not all is bleak for Smyrna. Returning for his senior season, one of the state’s best running backs, Will Knight. He gained 1,339 yards and rushed for 24 touchdowns in the 2016 championship season. On defense the Eagles will rely on end Hunter Moyer whose ten sacks were tops on the team.

2017 Smyrna Schedule
9/8 @ Middletown
9/15 Franklin (MD)
9/22 Irvington (NJ)
9/29 Cape Henlopen
10/6 @ Caesar Rodney
10/13 Sussex Central
10/20 @ Dover
10/17 Sussex Tech
11/3 @ Salesianum
11/10 @ Polytech
