NEW CASTLE, De. – Smyrna is headed to the Delaware D-1 state championship after a 30-14 win over William Penn in the DIAA semifinals.
The situation on the field didn’t look promising for the Eagles after star quarterback Nolan Henderson was taken off the field on the stretcher. The team was already down by two touchdowns.
“In that locker room at halftime,” Head Coach Mike Judy said. “They were looking at each other like we got this, we got this. We’re going to do it for number two [Nolan Henderson]. We’re going to get this thing done for our hometown.”
The Eagles did just that with running back William Knight leading the charge. Knight’s biggest run was for a 98-yard touchdown.
“It was huge because we never go down by that much,” Knight said. “Like I said before, it was a little adversity but we just had to execute harder and do what we had to do.”
