SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women’s lacrosse team was selected to close at the top of the Capital Athletic Conference in their latest preseason poll, according to SU officials.
The Sea Gulls received five first-place votes and 61 overall points while edging out York College of Pennsylvania, which finished second with four first-place votes and 60 overall points.
Coming in third was the University of Mary Washington with 50 points, with Christopher Newport University (42 points) coming in fourth and St. Mary’s College of Maryland (36 points) in fifth.
The Sea Gulls defeated York 7-2 to capture their 15th consecutive conference championship last season and their 17th overall. Salisbury’s record was 16-6 last season and they would advance to the regional finals, where they were defeated by Gettysburg College, who would go on to win the national championship.
Salisbury begins the 2018 season ranked at No. 9 in the IWLCA preseason poll and will face Stevenson University for the season opener on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m.
