Terps Face Challenging Road To Sweet 16
A month ago the Maryland Terrapins were ranked #2 in the Associated Press Poll. A number one seed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament was within sight. To this point that was the highwater mark of the 2016 season. Just three wins in their last eight games puts the Maryland as the fifth seed in the South Region and a cross country trip to Spokana, WA. Maryland will play South Dakota State on Friday March 18 in the first round.
If they advance to the second round and if the seeds hold, the Terps will face number four California. The Bears feature two of the nation’s top freshmen in Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb, along with a defense that led the Pac-12 by holding opponents to 39-percent shooting.
Last season, Maryland defeated Valparaiso 65-62 in the opening round before losing to West Virginia 69-59 in round two.
