MILFORD, Del.– After a week of hosting a canned food drive on campus, the Wesley Women’s Lacrosse team continued their community service efforts on Saturday, Septemner 24th by working at the Food Bank of Delaware’s Milford location.

Community outreach has been a priority this fall for the lacrosse team under Head Coach Jillian Lontz.

“We are very fortunate in our roles here at Wesley. I believe it’s important to have the girls gain some perspective and humility to help them appreciate their opportunity,” said Lontz.

During their day at the food bank the women’s lacrosse team helped with clearing out the garden, packing meals for delivery, boxing up water, washing coolers, and restocking the customer pantry.

“I love helping people,” said sophomore Paige Brehm. “We are young and kind of just go with the flow and we don’t really step back to look at the big picture. It was sad to actually know that some people don’t have food.”

The Food Bank relies heavily on the help from volunteers with day to day operations in order to distribute to the over 720 agencies in the state.

“It means everything to have the [Wesley Women’s Lacrosse] team come out,” said Volunteer Coordinator, Sunja Redden. “Last year with our volunteers we calculated up the hours and it was about equivalent to 25 full time employees.”
