To last 51 seasons at one school, Butch Waller must be something right. With state championships and the development of the Governor’s Challenge, Waller’s legendary status in Delmarva basketball is secure. Thursday night, he became the best in the state of Maryland. WI-HI’s 78-64 victory over Easton was the 773rd in Waller’s career, surpassing the former coach of Annapolis High School, John Brady for the most wins in the history of Maryland Public Schools.
Several former players were on hand to witness history and Waller made sure to emphasize all those who helped him achieve the win record. “I certainly didn’t do this by myself,” Waller said. “Everybody’s got a piece of this.”
Kenny Burke led WI-HI with 17 points and Matt Lowe added 10 as the Indians improve to 6-5.
