Ravens Rookie TE Nick Boyle Impressing

September 7, 2015 Posted by WBOC Staff National Sports

SALISBURY, Md.- Don’t sleep on Baltimore Ravens rookie tight end Nick Boyle.

Despite being the Ravens’ second tight end drafted in 2015 behind Maxx Williams, the former All-American University of Delaware Blue Hen is impressing in camp.

The 270-pounder came into the NFL with the reputation of being a blocking tight end.

"You knew he was going to do that [blocking] well but he’s probably exceeded expectations in the passing game," Head Coach John Harbaugh said. "He’s done a really good job in terms of running routes. He’s a better athlete than maybe we thought."

That comes as no surprise for Boyle’s former University of Delaware Head Coach Dave Brock.

"He was involved an awful lot in pass protection especially in his second year," Brock said. "He was an elite pass catching tight end. I think the Ravens got themselves a heck of a player."

Boyle’s hands are not going unnoticed but he said he’d rather made a huge block than a big reception.

"People might not notice it [a block] but I’d feel good about myself," Boyle said.

Boyle arguably produced the best college career a tight end has ever had at Delaware. He also had a different tight end coach each year he was there.

Boyle is a two-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection. In college he caught 101 passes for 984 yards and had 12 touchdowns.

The rookie is ready to do what it takes to see game-time in a NFL matchup. However, he does admit there are big differences from the collegiate level to the pros.

"In college the play calls were a lot shorter. Here, I feel like they go on forever sometimes," Boyle said. "You’re just getting after it everyday, especially being new to everything."
