Milford – The dynasty continues for Cape Henlopen girls lacrosse. The Vikings captured their tenth consecutive DIAA State Championship with a 15-5 win over St. Mark’s.
Meredith Lockwood started the scoring in the opening minutes of the first half, finding the back of the cage off a free shot. Goals by Lindsay Monigle, Mallory Jones, Sawyer Walker, and Katy Frederick helped the Vikings build an 8-0 lead at the half.
This was a rematch of last season’s championship game won by Cape 19-7. That was the first for current head coach Lindsay Eichner. Tuesday night’s win adds a second to Eichner’s ledger. She replaced PJ Kesmodel who led Cape Henlopen to eight straight championships starting in the 2009 season. Kesmodel retired after winning the championship in 2016.
