Salisbury – Wrestling has been a large part of Alphonso Henry’s life. In high school during the early 1970s, he competed at Stephen Decatur High School. In his adult years he has coached at a variety levels including the last 14 years as an assistant at James M. Bennett High School.
For his commitment to the sport, Henry won the the Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum. On Wednesday, he was honored at Bennett prior their match with Mardela.
“I did not know whether to jump, scream, or shout,” Henry said after learning he had won the award. “It was so amazing receiving this letter saying I made it.”
