When Cape Henlopen’s baseball team takes the field (weather permitting) Friday, March 23 to open the 2018 season, they will do so as the 47th ranked team in United States. This according to Street & Smith’s Baseball Preview.
“We are really excited for the kids and the hard work they have put in we feel like they have earned that ranking,” head coach Ben Evick said. “These guys have put a lot of time in the last few years, the senior class especially, and I think it is well deserved.”
The Vikings return All-State Second Team shortstop Zach Gelof. The senior is also utilized as a starting pitcher and committed to continue his baseball career at the University of Virginia.
After posting a 12-6 regular season record in 2017, Cape lost in the quarterfinal round of the state playoffs in heartbreaking fashion to Conrad by giving up a run in Conrad’s final at bat.
