MILFORD, Del.- A fight between fans and some Cape Henlopen High School players broke out midway through the fourth quarter of the game scheduled to break the Henlopen North Division tie in the standings.
The game did not resume and it will go down as a Smyrna 61-34 win. An ugly ending to what was on track to be a signature win this season by the defending state champion Eagles. Both Cape and Smyrna finished the regular season with one conference loss. Those loses were to other school. In the Dec. 1, 2017 season opener, the Eagles defeated the Vikings 64-55. Cape returned the favor on Jan.12 winning on their home court in Lewes 74-51. The neutral site gym at Milford High School was selected to host the game.
Smyrna advances to Friday night’s Henlopen Conference Championship game in Dover against the top team in the South Division, Woodbridge. The Milford Police department confirmed to WBOC there is an on-going investigation and expect to announce an update on Friday regarding this incident.
