Laurel, DE – Less than two years removed from taking the Laurel Bulldogs to the Delaware Division II Championship game, Glenn Phillips Jr. is out as head coach.
On Monday March 14, the school administration informed Phillips that he was no longer the head coach of the program.
In a Facebook statement, Phillips said, “I will cherish the memories we made together. I do believe we can look back and say Laurel Football is in a better place than it was when we took it over.”
Laurel was 2-8 in 2013. In June of 2014, Phillips was the head coach of the winning Gold squad in the DFRC Blue Gold All-Star Football game played annually at Delaware Stadium in Newark. Three months later Laurel embarked on a run to the championship game. The Bulldogs were 8-2 in the regular season and followed that with playoff wins over Caravel and Wilmington Friends. Laurel’s 2014 season ended with a 42-0 loss to Hodgson.
That success was not replicated in 2015 as Laurel finished 3-7.
