Norfolk, VA — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) awarded one of their most prestigious honors to a Maryland Eastern Shore athlete on Monday, as senior track & field runner Khalil Rmidi Kinini (Malaga, Spain) was named the MEAC Male Student-Athlete of the Year.
“I would like to congratulate Khalil Rmidi Kinini,” MEAC Commissioner Dr. Dennis Thomas said. “He’s had an absolutely phenomenal career at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, not only as a student-athlete, but academically and in extracurricular activities as well. I wish him continued success and I would like to thank all of the people who had a positive influence on Khalil.”
A senior from Spain’s Costa del Sol, Rmidi Kinini shined all season long for The Shore’s track & field teams, sealing the finishing touches on an exceptional four year collegiate career.
“I am very blessed to receive this award in my senior year.” said Rmidi Kinini. “I have worked very hard to represent myself and my institution well so that I can be an example for future student-athletes. I couldn’t have achieved this without my coach [Ernest Barrett] and all the support system around me.”
It all began during the cross country season, when he led the Hawks to their third consecutive MEAC title with a winning time of 24:27.88, earning a record setting third Most Outstanding Runner award.
At the Mid-Atlantic Regionals Rmidi Kinini ran a time of 30:54, finishing in fifth and becoming the first Maryland Eastern Shore runner to compete at the NCAA Cross Country Nationals in Terre Haute, Indiana. Facing temperatures under 40 and gale force winds, Rmidi Kinini ran a time of 31:54.8, beating out challengers from Power Five conferences.
