On Feb. 11 Delaware State defeated 56-45 at Morgan State. It extended the Hornets win streak to four and improved their MEAC record to 7-5. Delaware State did not win a game the rest of the season, losing their last six (including the opener in the conference tournament).
Keith Walker begins is his fourth season in Dover. In 2016-17 the Hornets were outrebounded by a margin of 5.5 a game. Walker has emphasized better play on the boards during the past month at practice. “That was a real big issue for us last year,” Walker said. “We weren’t able to rebound the ball as consistently as we would like.”
Polytech’s DeVaughn Mallory’s tranfer to division II Philadelphia hurts Walker in the point production department. Mallory averaged 10.4 points a game. Kevon Waller is back for his senior season. As a junior Waller averaged 10.1 points and led the Hornets in three-point accuracy (41.5%).
