NEWSPORT NEWS, Va. – A dominating effort in the second quarter propelled number one ranked Salisbury to a 19-5 win at Christopher Newport. The Sea Gulls outscored CMU 10-0 in that period.
Salisbury opened the scoring just over two minutes into the first. Off a groundball scrum in front of the net, Carson Kalama came away with a big groundball and the Gulls moved the ball around the offensive zone quickly and with the defense out of place, Brendan Bromwell dodged to his right and stuck one off his alley dodge for his 19th of the season.
The Captains then used two long possessions to score twice in a row to go up 2-1, with 7:38 remaining in the opening quarter. Keeping to its game plan, CNU slowed the game the rest of the quarter and used a few key stops on outside shots by keeper Matt Hayden to stay up one going into the second. Hayden ended the game with 16 stops.
James Burton assisted on Dashiell’s goal to notch his 100th career point. Salisbury opens the season with 14 straight wins.
