Dover International Speedway announced on Oct. 21 that it will host two NASCAR tripleheader weekends in 2016. The spring events are scheduled for May 13-15 as the Camping World Truck, Xfinity, and Sprint Cup series return to the Monster Mile. Sept. 30 – Oct 2, the track will host the K & N Pro Series East in addition to the Xfinity and Sprint Cup races.
With the Sprint Cup race scheduled for May 15, 2016, the weekend is the earliest Dover will host the NASCAR series since 2011 when the Sprint Cup race was also held on May 15. Jimmie Johnson is the two-time defending champion of the spring event. At the FedEx 400 on May 31, he became only the fourth driver to visit the Dover Victory Lane 10 times.
For the third consecutive year, the mile track will take part in the NASCAR Playoff with the Sprint Cup race scheduled for Oct. 2. The AAA 400 is the first of the initial elimination round of races. Kevin Harvick dominated Dover International Speedway earlier this month, leading 355 of the 400 laps.
